Workers’ Party head Mr Pritam Singh took his two young daughters to the Singapore Army Open House, which is returning after a five-year break. While the main exhibition will be open to the public from May 28 to 30, the Leader of the Opposition was able to bring his girls for a “sneak peak,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday evening (May 26).

His National Service (NS) formation, he added, had invited “all its NSmen, regardless of rank” for a preview of the open house. And while the LO got tickets for the whole family, his wife had work, so he ended up taking “the little ladies” by himself to the venue at the F1 pit building in Marina Bay.

“We had good fun, walking around the exhibits and checking out the equipment on display (the Leopard 2 always stands out), including some very impressive platforms such as the MAN Wheeled Recovery Vehicle and indigenously manufactured platforms like the Trailblazer and Hunter Armoured Fighting Vehicle,” Mr Singh wrote.

Mr Singh is married to Singaporean theatre practitioner Loveleen Kaur Walia. Their daughters were born in 2015 and 2018.

He posted photos of the young girls enjoying the different activities, including one where they watched the fireworks display, which Mr Singh wrote happened at the end of the night.

The WP chief said that the formation commander also “gave a short and meaningful speech thanking NSmen for their service and acknowledging their families too,” and invited everyone to visit AOH22 this weekend, reminding them to stay hydrated, especially those who were planning a long stay.

The Open House will relocate to Punggol from June 3 to 5 and then to Bishan from June 10 to 12.

According to the Singapore Army’s Facebook page, tickets for the weekend are already sold out, but there are some slots still available for Monday (May 30). Those who are interested may book here.

“Army Open House 2022 (AOH22) will make a return to the F1 Pit Building after five years. Themed ‘Generations of Strength’ to commemorate 55 years of National Service, AOH22 will comprise the AOH22 Virtual Exhibition, AOH22@F1 Pit Building and AOH22@Heartlands to showcase the Army’s hardware, software and heartware to engage Singaporeans of all ages.

AOH22 will feature a range of interactive activities where visitors can view over 20 different Army platforms, get up close with the different Army Formations and enjoy Battle Rides on various Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) platforms. There will be a mission-based night walk, an outdoor obstacle course and other hands-on activities to provide visitors with an immersive and exciting experience. To take part in the Drone Arena, Be A Marksman, Battle Rides and Soldier Strong Obstacle Course, bookings can be made on-site at the F1 Pit Building.

Visitors can also learn more about the evolution of National Service (NS) over the past 55 years, as well as achievements of our national servicemen in defending and safeguarding Singapore through the NS55 Showcase,” a fact sheet released earlier this month reads. /TISG
