Taiwanese Director Doze Niu Reports For 4-Year Jail Sentence With 2 Bags Containing Clothes And Snacks
The 55-year-old arrived at the prosecutor's office looking like he was going on a long vacation.
Taiwanese director Doze Niu, who was convicted of sexually assaulting a female staff member, began serving his four year jail sentence on Tuesday (Nov 30).
At 9.57am, the 55-year-old, who is best known for directing Taiwanese gangster film Monga, arrived at the Hualien District Prosecutors Office in a black Lexus to report for his sentence.
Dressed in a white shirt, khaki pants and sunglasses, he greeted the waiting media with a smile and said: Thank you for your concern and blessings.
Following him were his friends carrying two bags containing clothes, necessities, and snacks like biscuits.
After speaking to the prosecutor, Doze was taken away in a police vehicle and sent to Hualien Prison for his sentence.
He also updated his particulars in the household registration system so that he could serve his sentence in Hualien.
Compared to prisons in northern and western Taiwan which are overpopulated, Hualien Prison, which has a total capacity of 1,530 people, is much more spacious.
According to a Hualien Prison official, due to the pandemic, new inmates must be isolated for 14 days, and will only be housed with other inmates after testing negative.
For his first meal in prison, Doze reportedly had fried garlic pork, diced meat with leek, fried cabbage, and mushroom soup.
In April 2020, Doze was convicted of assaulting a female staff member after guests left a gathering at his home.
He appealed the conviction, claiming they had consensual sex, however, the High Court dismissed his version of events and upheld the sentence. Doze filed a final appeal which was rejected by the Supreme Court.
