1,647 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore; increase in number of patients who are hospitalised, need oxygen support

SINGAPORE — Singapore on Monday (Sept 27) registered 1,647 new cases of Covid-19, of which 1,642 were locally transmitted cases.

SINGAPORE — Singapore on Monday (Sept 27) registered 1,647 new cases of Covid-19, of which 1,642 were locally transmitted cases.

There are 1,288 infected people who are in hospital, 85 more than the day before, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its daily update on the coronavirus situation on Monday night.

Of these, 194 patients require oxygen support to help them breathe, up from the 172 reported the previous day.

The number of patients in intensive care units is now 27, down by three from the day before.

MOH said that of those who have fallen very ill, 185 are seniors aged over 60 years old.

Of the locally transmitted cases, 362 are migrant workers staying in dormitories and the remaining 1,280 are community cases.

There were five imported cases recorded, all of whom had been placed on stay-home notices or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.

Two more patients have died due to complications from Covid-19, with the death toll now at 80 since the outbreak began last year.

Singapore has recorded a total of 89,539 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic last year.

MOH said that over the last 28 days, the percentage of local cases who were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms is 98.0 per cent.

  • During that same period, 382 cases required oxygen supplementation and 41 had been under intensive care

  • Of these, 51.3 per cent were fully vaccinated and 48.7 per cent were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

  • Twenty-three have died, of whom 34.8 per cent were fully vaccinated and 65.2 per cent were not vaccinated or partially vaccinated

CLUSTERS UNDER MONITORING

No new locations were added to the list of large clusters under close monitoring.

There were, however, 49 new cases added to nine clusters that were under the authorities’ scrutiny.

VACCINATIONS

As of Sept 26, 82 per cent of the population has been fully vaccinated, and 85 per cent has received at least one dose.

A total of 9,114,751 doses of Covid-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme (Pfizer-BioNTech or Comirnaty and Moderna) have been administered, covering 4,592,993 individuals, with 4,475,491 people having completed the full vaccination regimen.

In addition, 192,119 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing have been administered, covering 88,524 individuals.
