SINGAPORE — Two Singaporean men aged 62 and 71 and one 71-year-old Singaporean woman, all with underlying health conditions, have died from complications due to Covid-19 over the past two days, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Saturday (Sept 25).

The woman had not been vaccinated against Covid-19, while the two men were either fully or partially vaccinated against the disease, MOH said in its daily update on the coronavirus situation here.

The 71-year-old woman had tested positive for Covid-19 on Sept 14 and passed away on Saturday.

She had a history of diabetes, end stage renal failure, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia.

Hyperlipidaemia is a condition where a person has high levels of lipids such as cholesterol or triglycerides in the blood. It is one of the main risk factors for coronary heart disease and stroke.

The 71-year-old man had tested positive for the coronavirus on Sept 8 and had been fully vaccinated against it.

He had a history of atrial fibrillation, thyrotoxicosis and hyperlipidemia, which MOH said, together with his old age, made him more susceptible to severe illness.

Atrial fibrillation is a heart condition that causes an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate.

Thyrotoxicosis is a condition which means an excess of the thyroid hormone in the body.

He died on Friday.

The 62-year-old man had tested positive for Covid-19 on Sept 6 and was partially vaccinated against it.

He had a history of diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipaemia and passed away on Saturday.

MOH did not state in which hospitals the patients were warded.

There are now 76 people who have died after contracting the coronavirus, including 16 in the past week.

On Saturday, MOH recorded 1,443 new cases of Covid-19 in Singapore, of which 1,424 were locally transmitted.
