SINGAPORE — An 80-year-old Singaporean woman died on Saturday (Aug 7) from complications due to Covid-19, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

The woman had developed symptoms on July 21 and was admitted to Tan Tock Seng Hospital two days later after testing positive for the coronavirus.

She had not been vaccinated against Covid-19, and had a history of diabetes, hypertension and atrial fibrillation, the ministry said in its nightly update on the Covid-19 situation.

Atrial fibrillation is a heart condition that causes an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate.

This is the fifth fatality from Covid-19 complications in six days, following the death of a 34-year-old Ukrainian man last Sunday, a 58-year-old Singaporean woman on Monday, a 79-year-old man on Wednesday and a 63-year-old man on Thursday.

There are now 42 people here who have died after contracting the coronavirus.

On Saturday, Singapore recorded 75 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total tally to 65,680 since the outbreak began last year.
