Samy’s Curry at Dempsey identified as a new Covid-19 cluster; to close till Aug 8

SINGAPORE — Samy’s Curry has been identified as one of two new Covid-19 clusters on Saturday (July 24), after eight cases were linked to the restaurant on Dempsey Road. 

The other new cluster, which is linked to an unidentified individual, has four cases. 

In its evening update on the coronavirus situation in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that epidemiological investigations have found that there is likely ongoing transmission at the restaurant.

It will thus be closed from Sunday until Aug 8 for deep cleaning and to break the chain of transmission. 

Samy’s restaurant employees have been placed on quarantine and will be tested during quarantine. 

MOH said that it is extending free Covid-19 testing to members of the public who had visited Samy’s Curry between July 19 and 23 so that it can quickly uncover any community infection cases.  

“All visitors to the Dempsey area are advised to monitor their health closely, and minimise social interactions as far as possible, for 14 days from their date of visit or interaction,” it added. 

It also encouraged individuals to see a doctor immediately if they feel unwell.
