Singaporean woman, 86, dies from COVID-19; linked to TTSH cluster

SINGAPORE — An 86-year-old Singaporean woman died on Monday (7 June) from COVID-19 infection, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Tuesday.

The woman was linked to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) COVID-19 cluster, which was announced closed by MOH on Sunday. She was the third fatality linked to the cluster and the 34th COVID-19 linked death in Singapore. On Saturday, the cluster was listed as having 48 cases to date.

In its daily COVID-19 report, MOH said the woman was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on 30 April when she was warded at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) for an unrelated medical condition.

“She had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidaemia, hypertension and hypothyroidism. Khoo Teck Puat Hospital has reached out to her family and is extending assistance to them,” MOH added.

In its daily COVID-19 report on 1 May, MOH said the woman’s husband had been warded in TTSH Ward 9D from 20 April to 22 April. She was found to have a fever at KTPH on 30 April. She was tested for COVID-19 and her test result came back positive on the same day.

On Tuesday, MOH confirmed nine new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, bringing the country's total case count to 62,219.

Of them, four are local cases – three are in the community and one resides in a dormitory. The remaining five are imported.
