Sonia Chew Just Got The Keys To Her New Condo & Her Ex-Architect Dad Will Be Helping To Design It

If you follow 987FM DJ Sonia Chew on Instagram, chances are, you would know by now that the 28-year-old is a newly minted homeowner. When 8days.sg caught up with Sonia for a quick chat over WhatsApp earlier this week, the jock confirmed that she’d just received the keys to her condo.

Sonia tells us that she bought it almost four years ago and that the estimated date of completion was last year. However, like many construction projects, it was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

While she declined to reveal more details about her new pad, she was happy to share about why she decided to make the big purchase.

“It's always been my dream to be a homeowner, people work very hard [to achieve] this dream, and so have I,” she said.

While her parents won't be moving in with her when her place is ready, her door is always open to them.

I want them to be able to come over anytime, and enjoy the facilities as well, they deserve it, laughed Sonia, who is an only child. I also hope that maybe they'll get a dog and then, come and walk the dog around this area, and use the pool and the gym. My parents are very endearing, so I'm sure I'll find them in my apartment at any time, so I gotta be prepared for that.

Her parents are also very involved in the renovation process.

“Actually, my dad’s my interior designer. He used to be an architect a long time ago, and I'm so glad that this is bringing him joy. He's putting together some ideas and designs based on some mood boards that I have. I'm a very visual and creative kinda person, but I'm not necessarily good with putting things together and designing things, so he is helping me,” said Sonia.

As for what theme she has in mind for her apartment, Sonia has this to say: I want it to be like a resort, I want it to make me feel like I'm relaxed, and on a vacation. I think that's what a home should be like, to [be able to] take you to a good place.

So… since her parents won't be moving in with her, does this mean her investment banker boyfriend, Jeremy, who she’s been dating for “close to three years”, will?

Well, the answer is no, too. Or rather “I don’t think so”, even though they’re currently living together.

As it turns out, Sonia moved in with Jeremy “just before the pandemic”.

We just wanted to see our dynamic, and how it's like living with a person. I mean, it may be unconventional, but I feel like it's so important to know that you're able to live with someone before you make a further commitment,” she said.

The pandemic actually brought us a little bit closer together, we were already spending a lot of time together, but just before the pandemic was when we decided that I would probably stay with him most of the time. I still go back home, though, ‘cos you know, my parents miss me, I'm the only kid [after all],” she added.

But as of now, Sonia’s looking forward to having her own space.

I actually haven't had a space to myself before, and I think it's also important for me to learn about up-keeping an apartment on my own, even though I got a taste of it while staying with him,” she said.
