The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Saturday opposed the proposal to impose a regulatory duty on cotton yarn exports.

According to the 24News HD TV Channel, APTMA Chairman Abdur Raheem Nasir said the decision of the government would affect the exports of the textile sector.

APTMA chairman said that some elements were proposing to impose a regulatory duty on the export of cotton yarn for personal gain. Nasir said that the domestic production of cotton yarn was around 3.5 million tons and such quantity was abundant in the country. He said that 90 per cent of cotton yarn was consumed in the manufacture of value-added products and only 10 per cent was being exported.

The APTMA chairman urged the government that it should provide raw materials at competitive rates instead of imposing regulatory duties.
