‘We are heartbroken’: CHALK says goodbye after 20 years due to ABS-CBN franchise denial

MANILA — CHALK, the long-running college lifestyle and fashion magazine from ABS-CBN, is the latest casualty of the forced shutdown of the broadcast network.

CHALK had been printing monthly editions under ABS-CBN Publishing until May 2017, which then marked its shift to digital publication. “In light of this, we are heartbroken to announce that our team will cease operations by the end of August.” Other entire units of ABS-CBN ending operations by the end of August include the Current Affairs arm of ABS-CBN News, the regional offices of ABS-CBN News, and ABS-CBN Film Restoration. ABS-CBN Sports also closed in July.

Not sustainable in the first place as it suffered identity crisis for too long. Target market narrow, not much spending power; engagement also too low.

grabe talaga ang ABSCBN management. laking pinsala ang ginawa nila dahil lang nakalimutan ng lahat magrenew. what a pity.

Even b4 ABS shutdown printed mag were already phasing out because of digital era. I've rarely seen Chalk mag in the stand.

sobrang ang sakit. Naging part ng kabataan ko ang Chalk Magazine. 😢😢 yan yung panahon na hindi pa super in ang technology at social media. Yung tipong Friendster palang. 😢😢

nakaka sad na tlga ang ngyayari sa bansa natin😔……milyon na nawalan ng trabaho,…nasara na mga kumpanya…mga nagugutom at mga nghihirap na mga kababayan natin…nakakaawa sla pati bansa nating Pinas…💔😭…god pls. protect our people ＆ our country🙏.

Nakakasad 😢 lang n part ng elem days ko ang chalk mag. Every month palagi ako bumibili khit pinapagalitan n ako , dahil sa dami 😁😂

Kaya nakakatawa na hindi daw ito press freedom issue while closing ABS down will mean ending of some tv, radio broadcast and even publication. Akala ata nila TV lang ang ABS.
