METRO Manila’s water allocation from Angat Dam has been retained to ensure ample supply for the metropolis amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System said.
Salamat said the “overriding reason” behind this request was to ensure ample water supply in protecting human health against Covid-19 and sustain the current water demands that are at an all-time high due to higher than normal temperatures for this time of year. It also mentioned NWRB’s estimates that with the current allocation, the dam would still be at a comfortable level of 188 meters, or more than 8 meters above the critical level.
Last month, NWRB Executive Director Sevillo David Jr. announced water allocation for domestic use was raised to 48 cms from 46 cms to reduce the rotational water service interruptions being experienced in the service areas of Manila Water Co. Inc. and Maynilad Water Services Inc.
