Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo says the United States might feel a little 'insecure' over the Philippines' closer ties with Russia after President Rodrigo Duterte's second visit to the northern nation.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the United States might feel a little"insecure" over the Philippines' closer ties with Russia after President Rodrigo Duterte's second visit to the northern nation.," Panelo said in a press briefing Monday, likening US to an old friend who does not like losing.

On how this would affect Philippine-US relations, Panelo said that we could expect better treatment from the old ally.[Translation: Maybe they will now treat us fairly.] Duterte, in his speech delivered in Russia on Thursday lashed out against the United States for its alleged double standards. "Some so-called friends act like they know the answers to our problems and impervious to our socio-economic and political conditions. They create rules and norms for almost everyone and some refuse to be bound by the same," Duterte said.
