THE Department of Health and the United Nations Population Fund called for the continued provision of reproductive health programs and protection services against gender-based violence amid the surge in Covid-19 cases. The call came following reports that women about to give birth are being turned away by hospitals, as these have reached overcapacity because of increasing Covid cases.
UNFPA analysis revealed that more women have delivered their children at home compared to previous years. In Metro Manila, three times more women gave birth at home in January 2021 than in the same period in 2020 before the pandemic.Health Secretary Francisco Duque 3rd said that the needs of pregnant and lactating women, as well as victims of domestic violence, should not go unnoticed.
