Those aged 8 to 10 must finish a 100-meter swim, 6-kilometer bike ride and 1.5-km run, while those in the 11 to 14-year-old age group must complete the 300-meter swim, 10-km bike ride and 4-km run. “So parang 'yung effort po nila parang 'yung effort na ginawa din ng mga adults.... When we start them young, may tsansa po silang maging national team later on,” race director Jumbo Tayag said.“I learned how to do those three sports so they let me join the aquathon first, then triathlon," he said.
“Nung na fell in love kami sa sports na triathlon, what we did was sumali kami and then we make sure na ma-influence namin siya,” said Shem's father, John Clave.She said it’s her first time to join in a triathlon race.Meanwhile, on Sunday, more than 700 adults participated in the major triathlon race.
One of the participants is 2017 Southeast Asian Games men’s triathlon silver medalist John “Rambo” Chicano, who is the Philippines’ top bet for this year’s 30th Southeast Asian Games.It added that the race was another opportunity to test the sports facilities before the 30th SEA Games which will be held from November 30 to December 11.
