In 1834, the Philippines enjoyed free trade for the first time. Through the galleon trade, ships from Great Britain, German Confederation, and the United States plied in and out of Manila Bay to bring Filipino products abroad. It sparked an era of discovery and put the Philippines on the map for the finest products.
“It is a gin expertly crafted by the world’s largest selling gin, which is Ginebra San Miguel,” said Giselle Villanueva, 1834 Brand Manager. “But I think moreover than our gin-making techniques, the story is embodied very well from the packaging down to the formulation of using endemic, unique botanicals from the Philippines,” she added.
She added that they collaborated with top-notch mixologists in perfecting the formulation of 1834 Premium Distilled Gin. What resulted is a hard liquor that has fresh and floral notes. As for the bottle design, the company tapped an all-Filipino company for its nostalgic look reminiscent of the year 1834, an era where Filipinos also started leveling up by attaining higher education and traveling abroad. The galleon is the defining symbol of the 1834 bottle. A marvel to behold, it meant opportunity in the changing tides especially for the rising Filipino elite of that time.
