University of the Philippines' Office of the Student Regent urged the public to report suspicious accounts and encouraged students to 'stand together against possible tactics seeking to silence our voice.'

MANILA - Suspicious social media accounts bearing names of University of the Philippines students and alumni have been reported, the university said Sunday.

It was first reported in UP Cebu, where 7 protesters and a bystander were arrested last Friday, according to the Student Regent's office. "Blank Facebook accounts are being created using their names. Those who are critical of the government are the usual targets," the college said. The university's Student Regent office encouraged students "not to panic and instead help each other in reporting suspicious accounts only."

“We think they got our names from the online petition that we signed or our posts about the anti-terror bill,” said one UP Cebu student.
