Suspect in rape-slay of PWD killed by police

The Quezon Police Provincial Office (QPPO) reported that the suspect is the rape-slay of a 10-year-old girl with disability was killed while attempting to grab a hand grenade from his bag in Tagkawayan, Quezon.

Police Colonel Audie L. Madrideo, director of the QPPO identified the killed suspect as Mauro Cargar Gravamen alias Papa Jun, 60, farmer, and resident of Brgy. Ibabang Alsam, Tayabas City. His victim was Kaycee Sabornido Oabel, grade 5 student, and resident of Brgy. Ilayang Alsam, Tayabas City. The girl, who suffered from autism spectrum disorder, was reported missing on February 19. Her body was discovered last February 21, 2020 at the top of the hill of the said village. The body of the victim was found upside down on the ground with wounds on her left face and different parts of her body possibly caused by a blunt instrument, said Major Mark Amat, Tayabas City police chief. Based on the Provincial Crime Laboratory Office findings, the victim was raped before she was killed. In the follow-up investigation and hot pursuit operation conducted by the Tayabas City police, the suspect’s live-in partner confessed that it was Gravamen killed and raped the victim. The victim’s uncle, Marvin Sabornido Exhija, said he saw the suspect giving money to the victim prior to the incident. The Tayabas police said the suspect tried to evade arrest by pulling out a hand grenade from his bag. Police shot him before he could throw the hand grenade. The suspect died on the spot.
