Residents of Luzon, including Metro Manila, and parts of Visayas can expect continued rains until Saturday due to the combined effects of Severe Tropical Storm “Ineng” and the southwest monsoon, the weather bureau said Friday.
In its 5 p.m. update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 over Batanes and Babuyan Islands, as Ineng has maintained strength.Signal No. 1 is meanwhile raised over Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, Northern Abra, and Ilocos Norte, where intermittent rains or 30-60 kph winds may be expected within 36 hours.
Apart from these areas, PAGASA said Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Mindoro Provinces, the northern portion of Palawan , Aklan, Antique, and the western portion of Iloilo may also expect light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains. Weather officials maintained that Ineng is still unlikely to make landfall. It is also expected to leave the Philippine cyclone monitoring area on Saturday evening.
“Ineng” was last spotted at 360 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan. It has maximum sustained winds of 95 kph and gusts of up to 115 kph. It is moving northwest at 25 kph.
