Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Friday defended the Upper Chamber following House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano’s criticism of the move of senators to take up the franchise of the ABS-CBN without their bill on the matter.Sotto said the Senate Committee on Public Services’ decision to discuss issues on the legislative franchise of the broadcast network does not speak for the entire Senate until it has released its report.
He maintained that Senator Grace Poe, as the Public Services Committee chair, has the prerogative on whether or not to conduct hearings on ABS-CBN’s franchiseCayetano on Thursday hit the Senate for pursuing the legislative inquiry on ABS-CBN’s compliance to its 25-year franchise following the quo warranto petition filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida.
“Meron naman tayong nakakausap na miyembro ng Kongreso ukol dito at sinabi ko naman sa kanila na hindi naman ito paglabag ng kapangyarihan sapagkat nangyari na ito ilang beses ,” Poe said in a press briefing Monday.
