Two senior partylist lawmakers Thursday called on Congress not to restrict the operations of Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGO), saying that now is not the time to kill the goose that lay golden eggs.

However, Reps. Jericho Jonas Nograles and Enrico Pineda are backing the Philippine Gaming Corporation in its plan to put up hubs where POGO’s could freely operate, saying that outlets should be distanced from military camps and installations.

Nograles and Pineda said addressing the security concern could be easier to do if one is to consider the economic advantages the gaming operations bring to the country. ON proposals that stricter regulations be imposed for POGO operations to protect local labor and concerns of security, Nograles said Congress must bide its time and allow them to continue operating.Pineda, chairman of the House Committee on Labor and Employment, said that while concerns aired by labor leaders should not be ignored, there remains no cogent reason for local workers to feel threatened.

Pineda also backed Pagcor’s proposal to establish POGO hubs, saying that the state-run gaming firms should consider relocating operators in special economic zones.
