Zamboanga Sibugay 1st district Rep. Wilter “Sharky” Wee Palma II has justified the proposal to waive the Phase 4 trial requirement for COVID-19 vaccines to be procured by the Philippine government.

“Otherwise, baka maunahan tayo sa pagbili . Once it is open in the market, dapat nakapila na tayo . We should have signified our intent to buy already,” he said. Millions, or even billions worth of dosages of the COVID-19 vaccine are expected to be ordered from all points of the globe. In other words, there’s a real possibility that some nations will get wait-listed for their supply of the vaccine.

Citing the example of vaccine frontrunner Russia, Palma said its antigen candidate needs to meet three requirements in order to satisfy the procurement provision for drugs and vaccines in Bayanihan 2.

Duque not keen on waiving 4th phase of COVID-19 vaccine trialThe new Bayanihan bill has a provision that does away with the fourth phase of COVID-19 vaccine trials — the post-marketing study — to speed up procurement, but Health Secretary Francisco Duque said Tuesday he is not sure if that is a good idea. Keep your vaccine, it's not safe until it's been tested for 10 years at least - so no thanks, not for me. As long as the vaccine hasn't passed Phase IV we can't use it. Phase III of a clinical trial is about testing the vaccine kung may adverse effects & or side effects sa TAO using a wide range of sample, tapos sa October gusto niyo tayo sasampolan ng Phase III? Bakit naman po? ☹️
