Pero isang Pilipinong atleta na sasabak sa 2019 Southeast Asian Games ang nagpapatunay na pangmasa rin ito.

“Nu’ng sinabitan ako ng medalya , parang naisip ko, ‘Hala, gold ba talaga ko? Totoo ba to?’ Ganu’n. Kasi ’yun nga, para sa fencing, sa history ng fencing, first Asian medal namin sa individual so sobrang thankful ako, sobrang overwhelmed ako na nakuha ko ’yun para sa Philippines,” aniya.Iyon lang, mahirap ang training lalo’t sabay sa pag-aaral.

Nine years old siya nang yayain ng kanyang lolo sa barangay para sumali sa isang clinic kung saan tinuturo ng libre ang fencing. Nabigyan ng scholarship hanggang makapasok sa national team sa edad na 13 years old. Ayon sa kanyang inang si Aileen: “Malaking bagay na nakapasok si Sam sa fencing, kasi unang-una hindi kami nahirapan na paaralin sila. Napakalaking bagay na nabigyan sila ng 100% na scholarship with allowance pa.

Ang sports ay para s lahat mayaman ka man o hindi, as long you have the potential in that kind of sports & you love it, go for it, at ndi hadlang ang kahirapan s buhay, but hopefully d govt. will support the players equally or unconditionally, pinoy are talented sport mn yn o ndi
