After 3 months with no revenue, many small businesses in Brazil are forced to close for good.

"For sale" and"for rent" signs dot the streets in this neighborhood of bars, nightclubs, tattoo parlors, hair salons, and nail salons.

"I didn't even try to apply for a loan. I didn't want to come out of this pandemic under a pile of debt."Sao Paulo state is the epicenter of the pandemic in Latin America, with more than 11,000 deaths so far – the heaviest toll in Brazil. "We still don't know how many businesses will remain closed definitively, but we expect it to be around 20%," said Carlos Melles, president of the Brazilian small business association, SEBRAE.Latin America's biggest economy"Entrepreneurs will have to reinvent themselves. Jobs will be in the service sector, such as assisting the elderly, for example. We are also seeing an increase in online sales," said Melles.
