Severe punishments would be given to those spreading false information about the coronavirus, with worse consequences for those who inadvertently cause someone's death.

MOSCOW, Russia – Russian lawmakers were set on Tuesday, March 31, to consider legislation imposing severe punishment – including up to 5 years in prison – for people convicted of spreading false information about the coronavirus.

The proposals also foresee punishment – including a fine of up to 1.5 million rubles and up to 3 years in prison – for harming a person's health through spreading false information.
