tv President Rodrigo Duterte at one point was "dead serious" about selling a government asset to help more Filipino families cope with the coronavirus pandemic, his spokesperson said Wednesday.

Duterte "mentioned one property" when he talked about expanding the cash aid program to 23 million families from the current 18 million families, said Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque. "That's why I knew he was dead serious about it. I called the prospective buyer and I asked how much is the estimated value of the asset and the person said about P20 billion," he told ANC.

The Philippines needs P50 billion to give 5 more million families P5,000 to P8,000 each in 2 tranches, he said. "Maybe the President also realized that even if he were to sell that particular asset, it would not be enough," Roque said, declining to name the property.
