Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday warned against the President Duterte’s plan to “ignore” the arbitral ruling in favor of a joint oil and gas exploration with China in the West Philippine Sea.Robredo, in a statement released to media, said it was “profoundly disappointing and extremely irresponsible” for Duterte to declare the country will set aside the 2016 The Hague ruling.

The Vice President has long been critical of the administration’s soft stance to assert the country’s rights in the West Philippine Sea. “A firm, consistent assertion of our legal rights does not require a single shot being fired, yet why do the President and his administration constantly fail at doing it?” she asked.
