The Department of Education will give out a total of ₱1,500 incentive to about 880,000 public school teachers on October 5, in time for the celebration of World Teachers' Day., the Education Department will grant ₱1,000 as the World Teachers' Day Incentive Benefit.
Separate guidelines were issued by DepEd mandating all public school teachers to receive an additional ₱500 to cover their expenses for medical tests, aimed at ensuring their safety amid the COVID-19 pandemic.The opening of classes in public schools will start on October 5. The government is implementing a blended type of learning among students to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
Held annually on 5 October since 1994, World Teachers’ Day commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.
In 2020, World Teachers’ Day celebration will carry the theme “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future.”
