Pope pledges 100,000 euros for victims of Typhoon Odette

Pope Francis had pledged 100,000 euros for relief efforts in the Philippines following the onslaught of Typhoon Odette in December, the Vatican announced.

Pope Francis (Tiziana FABI / AFP/ FILE)In the latest data of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the death toll from the devastation wrought by Typhoon Odette has reached 406, while 65 individuals are still missing and 1,265 were injured.

Over 2.3 million families from Regions V, VI, VIII, X, XI, Mimaropa, and Caraga were affected by the typhoon.Pope Francis also previously offered prayers for the Filipinos who were affected by Typhoon Odette.“I express my closeness to the population of the Philippines, struck by a strong typhoon that has caused many deaths and destroyed so many homes,” he said in a tweet on Dec 19.
