Senator Grace Poe has supported calls for the rightsizing of the Philippines’ bureacracy to pave the way for the creation of the Department of Disaster Resilience .

Poe reiterated her appeal for the establishment of the proposed DDR, noting Taal Volcano’s eruptions, expected typhoons and the persisting COVID-19 pandemic in the country. “We should transcend post-calamity coordination and undertake inclusive whole-of-society planning to lessen the impact of disasters and build resilient communities,” Poe said.

Poe expressed hope that the 18th Congress, in its remaining one year, would pass the bills creating the DDR.
