The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) will be placed under a two-week lockdown in response to the rising number of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) cases among its employees.

In a statement released Sunday afternoon, PLM said it already has four confirmed COVID-19 patients among its staff. Of this number, two have recovered and one has died.“While records do not suggest that there is community transmission in campus, PLM is taking these steps as precautionary measures,” its statement read.

The lockdown is also its way to help frontline health workers get a timeout after months of battling the pandemic, PLM said. “As a University which produces doctors, nurses and medical professionals, we believe it is necessary to respond to the public health crisis by listening to science and the inputs of medical experts,” it said in its statement.
