MANILA -- Switching to 5G in the Philippines will "take a while" since rolling out the next-generation connectivity standard is "difficult and expensive, PLDT Inc president Manuel Pangilinan said.
PLDT will try to build 5G infrastructure on existing towers, Pangilinan said. The lack of 5G compatible devices is hampering the rollout, he said. Towers for 5G need to be closer to one another as its frequency can cover up to 500 meters, compared to 4G or LTE which can cover 3 to 5 kilometers from the cell site, according to the NTC.
"Mahirap and expensive," Pangilinan told reporters on the sidelines of an event in Manila City Hall."Medyo magtatagal ng konti kasi kailangan ng individual yung handsets e," he said.
Eh di ayusin nyo muna LTE connections nyo, ung reliability ng connection..
Ang lakas makisawsaw sa 5G pero ang 4G hindi pa nga inaayos. Ok lang magbayad ng mahal kung worth it naman sana.

difficult kasi kailangan mong tadtarin ng cell site ang service area mo para maabot ang ideal latency at tumakbo ng maayos ang mga IOTs. ang IOTs ang talagang target ng 5g hindi na ang ordinary cellphone subs. hindi magiging epektibo ito kung cherry picking ng location lang.
Yung coverage muna sana saka consistent internet speed.
Totoo naman talaga to, it’s very very expensive, hindi pa applicable sa Philippine settings natin. I guess it will take 4 to 5 years for us to enjoy this.
