The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday recorded 17,677 new COVID-19 cases increasing the nationwide COVID-19 tally to 3,459,646.

The Health department said of the 17,677 reported cases on Tuesday, 17,157 or 97% occurred within the recent 14 days from January 12 to 25.

A total of 33,144 more patients recovered from the respiratory disease, bringing the total tally to 3,158,597.Meanwhile, the Philippines’ COVID-19 positivity rate was at 37.2%, which is higher than the World Health Organization's requirement target of less than 5% positivity rate. Based on the latest data, it showed that 50% of 3,900 intensive care unit beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide are in use.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational since January 23, while there were six laboratories that failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
