Rodolfo Del Rosario, PhilHealth senior vice president for legal, said members of the agency's executive committee will file libel charges against former anti-fraud legal officer Thorrsson Keith for spreading false claims to the media.
PhilHealth President and CEO Ricardo Morales says the allegations of resigned officer Thorrsson Keith were only made to 'malign' his colleagues in the agency.
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 6) —The head of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. on Thursday refuted allegations that its senior officials have stolen some ₱15 billion from the agency. In a statement, PhilHealth President and CEO Ricardo Morales denied"in strongest terms" that its senior officials have pocketed such hefty amount from the state insurance agency, as claimed by resigned anti-fraud legal officer Thorrsson Keith during Tuesday's Senate hearing.
READ:Morales reasoned that Keith, who was only hired as a job order contractor to do staff work under the Office of the President,"is in no position to discuss office matters" with only a nine-month stay within PhilHealth."I have no reason to doubt the people working at PhilHealth," said Morales.
Rodolfo Del Rosario, PhilHealth senior vice president for legal, said members of the agency's executive committee will file libel charges against Keith for spreading false claims to the media."Hindi pwede i-invoke [He cannot invoke] legislative immunity because he went around media stating those lies, those fabrications," Del Rosario told reporters.
The PhilHealth chief made the same line of defense during the congressional deliberations in the last two days, claiming that Keith was just being vengeful due to a rejected promotion.During the hearing by the Senate Committee of the Whole, Keith bared that the ₱15 billion covers the unauthorized release of interim reimbursement mechanisms or IRM, funds allocated for"fortuitous events" such as the pandemic, to hospitals with no recorded COVID-19 cases.
The amount also includes the alleged"bloated" budget for IT equipment, which Morales had supposedly endorsed multiple times — a claim which he earlier dismissed as mere"inconsistencies" in figures. Read more: CNN Philippines »
EU Parliament to Philippines: Drop charges vs Maria Ressa
European lawmakers also call on the Duterte government to renew the franchise of ABS-CBN, the Philippines’ largest broadcaster
File charges after all involved are acquitted. Those involved are not yet out of the bush. But if found guilty their crimes should be punishable by DEATH. Ala taguba gagawin?😂😂😂 Lets pray that mr thorrsson has all the evidence he needs para manalo sa kaso. I find the whistleblower 100% more credible than these executives he accused of sucking at the members' contributions and public resources. It defies common sense or logic for a junior manager to fabricate accusations against his seniors.

PhilHealth denies senior officials stole P15 billion worth of fundsPhilHealth claims resigned anti-fraud officer Thorrsson Montes Keith made the 'malicious' allegations 'to malign officers that rejected his ambitions for higher offices which he is not qualified for' Di kayo makakabangon hanggat hindi nyo inaadmit ang mga nawala sa inyo at hanggat pinagtatanggol nyo mga opisyal nyo. Mukang nagkakatakutan sa loob ng ahensya ah. These reports by the media don’t help. Why don’t you make an investigative report? Enough of those “denial” reports because they’re useless. We’re not taking about showbiz news here. Didn't steal but maybe gave away to 70 congressmen?
