Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 25) –The Philippines will increase its testing capability to over 40,000 per day as infections from the UK COVID-19 variant rise.Testing czar Vince Dizon said the increased testing efforts will prioritize towns that recorded cases of the B.1.1.7 variant of of SARS-CoV-2, particularly in the town of Bontoc in Mountain Province where 12 of the 16 new infections were tallied.

"What we're trying to do now is to make sure we are able to trace the contacts of those who have already tested positive, both for the new variant and also for the regular COVID-19 strain with the goal of being able to test as many as we can in the next couple of days," Dizon said.
