The Philippine General Hospital will temporarily stop accepting patients in its outpatient department to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, according to an advisory.

PGH Spokesperson Dr. Jonas del Rosario told CNN Philippines that the hospital management decided to temporarily stop walk-ins due to the increasing number of COVID-19-related admissions, more health workers are getting sick, and the threat of the new variants.

The Department of Health on Sunday said that the country has posted more than 3,000 new COVID-19 cases for the third straight day. The country has so far recorded 594,412 cases. The OCTA Research Group said that Metro Manila could see a daily increase of up to 3,000 cases by end-March. The PGH said in another advisory that it will still continue to function as referral center, accepting moderate to severe cases via coordinated transfers.
