Shifting to a general community quarantine must come with a faster vaccine rollout and more efficient testing, tracing and isolation efforts in order to have a direction in the pandemic response, an opposition senator said

on Friday.

"You can prevent the spread to a certain degree, but if we’re not testing, if we’re not tracing enough, if we are not vaccinating enough, para lang ferris wheel — ikot ka nang ikot pero walang pinupuntahan ," he explained. He stressed that the government needs to improve its coordination on testing and tracing on the ground so that the figures do not just merely look"good on paper."

The government is targeting to inoculate 70 million Filipinos by yearend — the minimum number required to reach herd immunity to significantly lessen coronavirus transmission.
