Dr. Marcelo Jaochico, provincial health officer said that dengue cases in the province dropped significantly by 44 percent compared to the same period last year.
He cited former Governor and now Vice- Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda, and incumbent Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda, then vice governor, for mobilizing and ordering all local executives to participate and step up efforts to prevent the spread of the fatal disease. Barangay Dengue Task Force, Nanay Community Workers , Rural Health Workers , Municipal Health Workers , and midwives were also strengthened to provide surveillance and response to dengue cases and other public health diseases especially to those who are in the far-flung areas, he added.
From January to August 2018, the province has recorded 2,489 dengue cases, an obvious marked decline for this year’s cases.
