Canceling the VFA is a wrong retaliatory action. It can backfire.The Philippine military needs the VFA for military training exercises more than the U.S.. Our weakening military alliance and the cancellation of the VFA will make the Philippines weak and more vulnerable.

What factors would those be? I am not aware of any aggressive moves the US has done against the Philippines (unless you count the visa bans). Meanwhile, China has encroached on Philippine territory, harassed Filipino fishermen, yet Duterte refuses to act against them.

It would've been believable but Duterte said he won't junk the VFA if dela Rosa's visa is reinstated within one month.
