Malacañang has refused to make speculations about the death of peace consultant and peasant leader Randall Echanis until the investigation of the Philippine National Police is complete.“Let’s wait for results of police investigation before pinning death of Echanis on anyone,” Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said.

Echanis, a consultant of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines, was reportedly killed at a rented house in Quezon City Monday morning. Former Anakpawis Rep. Ariel Casilao has condemned the killing of Echanis, saying the unarmed elderly was undergoing medical treatment when police forces allegedly raided his house.

Casilao said the killing of Echanis was “a declaratory act that national leaders of legal-democratic movement are now targeted to be killed by the Duterte regime.” Echanis also served as deputy secretary general of the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas. He was also a former Anakpawis party-list nominee in the 2010 elections.
