Malacañang has left to the discretion of the court to decide on the furlough request made by Senator Leila de Lima to visit her ailing mother.

Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said the Palace would not interfere with the cases pending before the court including the case of De Lima.

“Well ever since naman the President has not interfered with any case involving anybody. Never naman siyang nakialam [He never interferes] so the discretion lies always on the court,” he said in an interview with reporters at the Palace. Asked if the Palace was amenable to De Lima’s furlough request, Panelo said: “Ayaw namin magcomment diyan kasi baka… Ang problema kasi pag nagcomment ka diyan, may be misinterpreted. So ever since si Presidente ayaw talaga nakikialam diyan [We don’t want to comment. The problem is if you comment on the matter, it may be misinterpreted so ever since the President does not really interfere].”

De Lima earlier filed a furlough request before the Muntinlupa court so she can visit her 86-year-old mother. The senator’s mother Norma Magistrado de Lima is reportedly critically ill at a hospital in Iriga City, Camarines Sur.Related Posts
