Philippine Airlines (PAL) continues to constantly coordinate with the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and relevant authorities, including the Embassies of Liberia and Cameroon, to arrange for the safe repatriation of the two Africans who have been stranded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA)

The Liberian national arrived on April 21, 2019 via a PAL flight from Guangzhou, China while the national of Cameroon arrived on April 4, 2019 from Bangkok, Japan.

PAL Spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said, “We will exhaust all means to facilitate their departure out of the Philippines. As we work on this goal, we have been providing them food and accommodation at the transit lounge since their arrival in Manila.” Attempts to fly them out since 2019 have been unsuccessful. The Liberian national refused to board the plane for an arranged fly-out in October 2020 via Bangkok to Liberia, while the Cameroon citizen is willing to depart but is awaiting clearances from his designated resettlement country. The pandemic and the resulting border closures by concerned countries had further delayed and continued to pose challenges to their departure from the Philippines.
