PAL said at present, they are operating 17 percent of the regular number of daily flights before the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the government’s recent declaration that tourist travel is now allowed internationally and in select domestic points, PAL said they are hopeful that there would be increased travel demand. PAL said the pandemic enabled them to mount all-cargo flights to transport vital medical supplies from Manila to various provinces as well as carry cargo from various parts of the world to Manila. Charterers of these flights included organizations, business groups, and companies.
PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said PAL has operated since mid-March, the start of quarantine period, close to 1,000 local and international cargo flights and over 300 domestic sweepers and repatriation flights. PAL said it is working to secure government support which will help the Philippine aviation industry weather the tremendous impact of the ongoing pandemic.
