Aside from being overworked, Philippine Business for Education executive director Love Basillote says that most teachers are 'really not qualified to teach the subjects that they are supposed to teach.'

MANILA, Philippines – Education experts cited overworked teachers as among the reasons behind the Philippines’ high level of learning poverty.aired on Wednesday, August 10, Philippine Business for Education executive director Love Basillote and Dr. Ed Fermin of the National Teachers College shared their insights on why the Philippines is languishing at the bottom of the 2022 State of Global Learning Poverty report, with a rate of over 90%.

“The way the World Bank calculates learning poverty is based on these factors – schooling deprivation and learning deprivation. In the case of the Philippines, we have high incidence of both,” he said.Fermin pointed out that learning poverty in the country is exacerbated by overworked teachers who have to perform tasks other than teaching.

Not only that. The source for money and materials for the school and classroom needs. When will public schools have the enough budget when billions of pesos are wasted by the corrupt?

good. more domestic helpers to send abroad for 10 generations so they can continue sending remittances home & businesses will not have a hard time paying low skilled workers.

9 of 10 working adults do not know how to use vlookup

Duterte legacy.

Similar to our public servants. Not qualified to receive our taxes

One thing to look at in the chain is the capacity of teachers. Teachers who may be passing the LET may not be as competent. So many are ill-informed and misinformed. How do we build their capacity? How is the quality of teacher training? They can't give what they don't have.

🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Oh tapos? Anong gagawin nyo? Bubuto ulit pa ulit ng isang Duterte at BBM... 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️

plus vlogger, tiktoker pa si teacher lalong overworked

Don’t forget about equipping them with overpriced and outdated laptops to work with 🙄

Can someone study if there is a correlation between lack of intelligence and the number of votes gathered by BBM

meanwhile senior bureaucrats at DepEd and their business cronies are buying overpriced, underpowered laptops... DuterteLegacy corruption Philippines GraftAndCorruption

not all teachers are not qualified.. SOME are studying for the major subjects they are teaching. They even spend their extra time to design the leson based on the students level

In sharp contrast, there are also teachers who 'likes' to work in the middle of nowhere because they really love (hazard pay) to teach, but in reality only visits these far flung brgys. twice a week. Hence, 10-yr old kids struggles to read and write.

Someone finally said it!

jcpunongbayan The concerned govt. officials just do not have the grasp of the real ang most critical issues facing the educational system of the country. They are day dreaming about something else that is so far from what they should be attending to......

isabelmerana Socmed is the great educator. You see people like that director and cast of MIM were schooled and have PhD in Tiktok and FB.

The no. of students one teacher handles is also a factor. There are students who need more attention than others.Tired, hungry & undernourished children will have a hard time environment at home and in d community not conducive to learning is also a cause.
