Recognizing the challenges brought by the coronavirus disease pandemic to indigent families, the Philippine Red Cross has been sending its food trucks to provide meals to various communities.

“Isa sa COVID response ng Red Cross ay ang maghatid ng pagkain sa mga apektado ng pandemya ,” said PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Senator Dick Gordon in a statement issued Friday, Oct. 15.On Oct. 14, in celebration of this year’s World Food Day, PRC sent a rolling kitchen to the Bgry. Urdaneta, Magallanes, Cavite.

World Food Day is celebrated every year by the United Nations. For the year 2021, the theme is “Our Actions are Our Future – Better Production, Better Nutrition, Better Environment, and A Better Life.” The PRC’s “Hot Meals On Wheels” served a meal of chicken adobo to 200 individuals in the said barangay.Currently, there are 23 food trucks included in PRC’s “Hot Meals On Wheels” fleet being deployed all across the nation to feed indigent communities and families who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Gaya ng pagbibigay ng bakuna sa ating Bakuna Centers at Bakuna Buses, at pagte-test ng swab at saliva upang malaman kung may COVID, ang food trucks na naghahatid ng pagkain sa ating mga komunidad ay importanteng aksyon upang maibsan ang paghihirap ng ating mga kababayan habang may pandemya ,” Gordon added.
