Pinay swimmer Remedy Rule has qualified for the semifinals of the women’s 200-meter butterfly but her counterpart Luke Gebbie fell to 36th place in the men’s 100-meter freestyle despite resetting the Philippine record.

Gebbie broke the national record of 49.94 seconds, which he also set in 2019 at the World Championships in South Korea. He needs to place within the top 16 to advance in the semis. #Tokyo2020 #Olympics pic.twitter.com/MYCBbsw3VhHowever, this was not enough to propel him to the semifinals, ranking in the middle of the 71 competitors and ahead of Olympic champion Joseph Schooling, who registered 49.84 seconds. Earlier in the Games, Rule finished 25th in the women’s 100-meter butterfly event, which means she missed the semifinals of her first event in Tokyo.

Juxtaposed: Lavish prizes for Hidilyn Diaz now and her financial woes at trainingNot too long ago, Hidilyn Diaz, already an Olympic silver medalist then, confessed how tough it was to ask companies to support her Tokyo Olympics bid. She was also harassed online for voicing the lack of support for athletes. Harassed online by the government's paid trolls. Even if she had not won gold Hidilyn is still my hero. Why? Because she is not afraid to tell the truth and she didn't kiss Duterte's a$$ to get her funding to participate in the Olympics.
