A magnitude 5.0 earthquake rocked Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental on Friday night, a day after the same town was hit by a relatively strong magnitude 7.1 tremblor.

An initial report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the second earthquake occurred at 234 km southeast of Jose Abad Santos town around 6:45 p.m.

Although it was not as strong as Thursday’s quake, the NDRRMC warned the public to be alert for any eventuality.Meanwhile, no casualty was recorded in the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that shook Jose Abad Santos town on Thursday afternoon. However, power interruption that lasted for at least three hours was noted in several areas including the entire Davao Occidental, some parts of Davao del Sur; Malungon town in Sarangani province; and parts of General Santos City.

The General Santos City Hall was also temporarily closed to give way to the conduct of building damage assessment by the authorities. “All national roads and bridges in Regions 10 , 11 , and 12 are passable to all types of vehicles,” the NDRRMC noted.
