MANILA—More than 200 heinous-crime convicts freed under the good conduct time allowance law are residents of Metro Manila, the capital region's police chief said Saturday.
Police Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said the 202 convicts were identified as residents of Metro Manila in an unofficial list that the NCRPO obtained from various sources.“For the others na included sa list na sa Metro Manila ang address, na-relay na natin sa police stations for appropriate action once mag-lapse na ang 15-day grace period," Eleazar said.
Thirty-seven such convicts have surrendered to NCR police and have been transferred to the National Bilibid Prison. On September 4, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered mistakenly released convicts to surrender within 15 days. “Klaro ang binanggit ng Pangulo. After 15 days, aarestuhin na ang mga 'di pa sumusuko. After termination of deadline, sa September 20, mag-manhunt operation na tayo,” Eleazar said.
