NBI welcomes PNP plans to create Chinese desks amid spike in Chinese-related crimes

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) welcomed plans of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to create Chinese desks to handle cases involving Chinese nationals.

(MANILA BULLETIN) “That could be helpful since the number of Chinese nationals in the Philippines is really growing,” NBI Deputy Spokesperson Auralyn Pascual said on Tuesday (Jan. 21). On the other hand, Pascual said the NBI will not put up similar desks. “That would be enough for the PNP.” PNP chief Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa said there is a need to create the Chinese desks due to the increasing number of crimes in the country involving Chinese nationals. “We will be establishing Chinese desks and cross training on language and culture so that mas maintindihan natin (we can understand) why they are doing this and how they are going to do it.” With this, the PNP chief said there is a need to have technical working groups from the Philippines and China to study the creation of the Chinese desks.
