NBI Officer-In-Charge Eric Distor said the items were seized last Tuesday, June 30, during an operation conducted by the NBI’s Special Action Unit in coordination with the Bureau of Customs’ Intelligence and Investigation Service .
Using a BOC-issued Letter of Authority to visit and inspect, Distor said agents of the NBI-SAU went to the warehouse after receiving information that unidentified persons were involved in the smuggling of Chinese goods including cigarettes. “During the operation, a room was found containing assorted Chinese medicines and upon inquiry, it was learned that a certain Tian Qin, a Chinese national, owns the said medicines,” the NBI said in a statement.
The NBI said 10 boxes of assorted Chinese medicine worth around P1 million were found and turned over to the BoC.NBI assured that appropriate charges will be filed against Tian Qin and they will determine with the BOC who are other persons involved in the smuggling of the Chinese medicines.
