After a slight fall in December, the country’s outstanding debt rose once more in January primarily due to government borrowing billions from the central bank to boost its COVID-19 war chest

The country’s outstanding loans ballooned to a fresh high of ₱10.327 trillion as of end-January, data from the Treasury Bureau showed.

Domestic borrowings comprised 71% of the country’s outstanding debt or ₱7.325 trillion in January, up 9.4% from the month prior.
